Unique Design

2012 Gold Sovereign

New Reverse Design

 Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

2012 celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, with a unique design for one year only on the sovereign.

Reverse – Paul Day

Paul Day has been commissioned to design a new interpretation of St George and the Dragon to celebrate this special occasion.

Obverse – Ian Rank-Broadley

The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II’s fourth portrait, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.

2012 Sovereign Obverse

2012 Sovereign Obverse

Unique Design

This is the fourth time a new reverse has been shown on the sovereign, previous design changes have been commissioned for the 500th Anniversary of the sovereign in 1989; the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002, and in 2005 for no apparent reason – maybe the Royal Mint were just bored!

Uncirculated Gold Sovereign

Most Popular

The gold sovereign has always been by far the most popular coin of the sovereign range – possibly because of it’s consistency throughout history – or because it can be bought at premiums as low as 5.5%
